Include both partners
Assessing both partners helps avoid overlooking a relevant factor. Previous conception does not rule out a current concern.
Discuss the timing
Seek evaluation after 12 months of trying, or earlier when there are known reproductive concerns. Earlier advice is usually appropriate when the female partner is 35 or older. A clinician can advise on your circumstances.
What to expect
History, examination and semen analysis may form part of the assessment. Bring prior results and discuss relevant illnesses, operations and medications. One result should be interpreted in context; further tests may be useful.
