Start with the reason for treatment
Ask where the stone is, whether it is obstructing urine flow and what happens if it is observed. Procedure names alone do not explain which approach fits your situation.
Three approaches you may hear about
URSL uses a scope to reach and fragment a ureteric stone. RIRS uses a flexible scope within the kidney. PCNL creates a small access tract through the back to reach the kidney. Your clinician can explain the trade-offs.
Ask about the complete plan
Discuss anaesthesia, possible stenting, follow-up, recovery and the possibility of further treatment. Confirm where the procedure will take place. If a stent is used, ask when it should be removed or changed.
